Somthing new last night...

While first off, let me stat a few things.

1. I currently have a coolent leak, im preety sure its the water pump (not related).
2. Its freaking cold this morning and last night.

3. After driving home when hearing it last night the noise was still going and it was about a 10min drive.

4. I have a whistle at high rpms, 2500+ (especially on hard acceleration).

Ok, I started my car last night to notice a "dry squeal" I guess I could desribe it as. My dad thought that it could be a bearing or a pully somewhere. The sepertine belt is brand new just to note, the squal is not constant, and it sounds more like a pigion making a noise, but yet a squeal like. I know thats a odd way to make it sound lol. It sounds more like its coming from the engine or around the engine. I can hear it more inside the car, but still hear it outside.

Anyone have any ideas? Or known of a common problem?

Its a 99' Honda Passport 2WD EX, 124K miles, bought it with 110K, been running realitivly great. Other then the normal used car hassles.

Thanks.

it is probably the idler pulley for the squeak. I have the same issue too, and it is -10 outside light now.

The whistle could be from a bad intake manifold gasket.

I bet the noise and the coolant leak are related. When my waterpump went south, my truck sounded really really bad.

That was the same source of a squeel for me too. When I replaced my water pump i was sure to put on a new idler pulley. If yours water pump has allready been chaned by a previous owner they may have skipped that step to save a few bucks. But if your pump is leaking it sounds like its time for a new one anyway. It only cost a few extra bucks to have a lot pulleys and such changed out by your local mechanic when he does the water pump. It is worth it to get all the recomended things changed. It saves you $$$ on labor in the long run. Good luck. Be sure to post your results!

Re: Somthing new last night...

Good news, got it replaced. And Volia its gone. The squal at high rpms, turns out its a exhaust issue, its in the back of the vehicle.

I had two idle pullies either barely working or not at all.

I tried to spin the bad one, one wouldn't even spin it was ruff to move.

Yey!

Didn't get my water pump fixed, but mechanic says I will likly need a new timing belt soon.

Only cost me 40$ for this fix. My Mechanic is awsome.
