2006 Mustang GT Doesnt start

I just got an 06 Mustang GT a couple days ago it has 6,200 miles on it and it 3 times already when I go and start it, I put the clutch in, have it in neutral, and have the parking brake on and it just clicks once even though I have the key turned forward and it doesnt do nothing. When I push the clutch in and out with the key forward it clicks. To start it I have to turn the key off and on about 25 times with the clutch in the whole time then eventually it will start. What seems to be the problem? Thanks for the help

Re: 2006 Mustang GT Doesnt start

The fact that you hear the click indicates that the circuit through the ignition switch, neutral sensing switch, and clutch switch is basically healthy. The starter relay or solenoid is being energised (that's what the clicking sound is) but then when current is supposed to flow from the battery to the starter motor windings, it is failing to do so. That suggests a bad connection between the battery and the starter.

First thing to do would be to remove, clean, and reassemble the battery positive and negative conections, and also the engine ground strap at the point where it bolts to the engine. Ideally you shouldn't reassemble those dry - smear them with a protective coating prior to reassembly. Here in the UK I use petroleum jelly, trade name Vaseline, or your auto parts store will have something called dielectric grease, which does the same job but probably at a higher price.

With some luck, that will fix the problem. If it doesn't, then you will have to do the same to the starter motor connections - clean, apply protective coating, and reassemble.

Re: 2006 Mustang GT Doesnt start

Thats what Im thinking too. I had it towed to a local dealer and when they got it they got in it and it started right up. They shut it off and on a bunch of times and it started right up everytime so there was nothing they could do about it. I was going to have it towed yesterday but when the tow truck guy came I got it started and he said hes towed a bunch of 06 GT's with the same problem. This just sucks that the car is this new and its already giving me problems. I guess Ill have to have it towed back there tomorrow and hopefully it does it for them. Thanks for all the help guys

Re: 2006 Mustang GT Doesnt start

if i am not mistaken you have the classic symptom of a pooor, incomplete or broken ground wire. there is one ground wire broken or missing. this problem gave me headaches for 9 years on my chrysler intrepid and dealer couldnt find it and when taken to dealer would start like nothing wrong. i found a broken ground wire. replaced it with heavier one and has not failed me in the last 12 months.

No recall on '06 GT for that problem, recall for MIL/ CEL take it to the dealership.. Duh! 6,200 miles way way way under warranty.

Its the battery. My friend's 06 had the same problem. He has garaged it since day 1, so it sat for weeks at a time. So when he did want to start it up , it would just click. He would have to keep charging it. The solution, get a new non-OEM battery. I think they came with a dry cell. He hasn't had a problem since.

He's actually selling it, its got the Cervini's body kit and custom paint. Check it out in the classifieds, I got pics and some more info.
