America's Cup

Managed to scrounge some away time from work and went down to the Viaduct Basin to have a look at the Telecom Shed!

I'm amazed at all the gadgets Telecom has - why dont I have some since I work for the company eh?

If you are near the area I recommend a wee look - cool!

Curious

Have a look at the Alinghi interactive plaza @ Syndicate Row (try to avoid the weekend). It's worth the trip - BTW the best I could do on the Spinnaker Hoist Simulation was 90%.

01 October - Countdown begins...

Well it's about 2 hours to the scheduled kick off for the first race of the Louis Vuitton Challenger Series. From my office overlooking the Rangitoto Channel, we've seen quite a few of the challenger boats being towed to the race course and a steady procession of spectator boats heading out to the Hauraki Gulf.

The Harbor is currently looking pretty flat (but an improvement over the sheet of glass that dawn revealed this morning). I'd expect the breeze to pick up a little - maybe 10 to 15 knots.

There are 4 races scheduled today - the first race being between Alinghi (the dark grey and red swiss boat backed by a biotechnology company) vs Le Defi (the bright green french boat backed by a company that operates, inter alia, nuclear power stations).

The second is the British GBR Challenge (a navy blue boat) vs Stars and Stripes (Team DC with another navy blue boat) with the third race being the race of the cheque books with Prada Challenge (silver and red boat backed by shoe and handbag billionaire) vs billionaire Larry Ellison's Oracle BMW Boat.

The fourth race scheduled today is Mascalzone Latin (the rookie italian syndicate) vs the big budget OneWorld syndicate from Seattle.

Victory Challenge from Sweden get a bye.
