Possible sighting of 2 McLaren F1's in the UK.

Hi guys,

Not the most exciting of posts, but it may turn into to something more if the pictures appear.

A member of Pistonheads has posted the following today: -

"Hi all not seen by me but a good friend has a few nice pictures from Goodwood golf club carpark today and there were two McLaren F1's parked together !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Heres a link to the original post: -

Wouldn't you rather it was two cars we have not seen so much of?

Re: Possible sighting of 2 McLaren F1's in the UK.

See what I meant Greg.

Okay - I'm not certain which car the black one is, but if I were a betting man, I'd guess that #069 has returned to the UK. Could be a refit though which blows all theories out the window. I'd be pleasantly surprised if the idea that this black one belongs to Gordon proves to be true.

Wonderful photos!! If hi-res could be made available I might have a new desktop wallpaper for a while.

Re: Possible sighting of 2 McLaren F1's in the UK.

Tim - never a need to apologize when you are sharing excellent content like this.

Anyway, being the absent minded person that I am sometimes, I hadn't gone to look at old shots of #069 yet.

Now that I have, this is definitely that car - plates are a match and the engraved "F1" logo on the wing endplate is also identical.

It is wonderful to see this F1 finally back in the wild after so many years in captivity! I was hoping it would surface soon, though I was obviously hoping (and I am sure Chris was too) that it had been able to remain here in the USA.

No worries...

There was a legal mess surrounding this car when it was in the USA which you may have caught wind of here in the past. Most details are here and others can be found by searching the forum for the previous owner's last name.

Evidently a byproduct of the final judgement was that the car needed to be sold outside the country once it was released from US Customs hold. Whether it can ever come back under different ownership is a mystery, as are most of the details surrounding the incident. Sadly it's my understanding that this F1 was the road car originally owned by James Munroe, so it has had a bit of a tumultuous life so far. Hopefully its newest owner is prepared to care for it and use it as the great Gordon Murray intended.
