92 Park Avenue ultra
Still having trouble tracking down the problem with my ultra. I have replaced the crank sensor and wiring harness (it was corroded and had a split in the wire). Car will start, idle good, smooth running. Once it starts to warm up just a bit it will stall. Then its a chore to get going again, almost like the battery is dead. Will idle good, then just stall. Sometimes when you goto restart, before you crank, all sorts of clicking sounds come from the engine compartment like relays going back and forth. Finnally, I checked codes, and get a code 56, QDM "B" Failure.
UPDATE:2-3-07 I ran it this morning, it started ok, and then ran smooth for the most part, untill it started to warm up, then it wanted to start cutting out unless I was on the throttle. After it warmed up completely, it will start, but wont stay running, even if I give it gas. It also has a fuel smell, like its running rich. Anyone have suggestions what do do next? Thanks Last edited by jrisebo; 02-03-2007 at 09:18 AM. |

Re: 92 Park Avenue ultra
I like the MAF suggestion... however isnt the MAF sensor read at start anywayz?
As for clickin and Quad driver.. here is a good forum link on that.. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ht=quad+driver Quad driver module..this could be the problem. Inside the PCM turning off many systems and relays like EGR control.. You said your B side is bad. You would need to find out what items are being driven by the Quad Driver B that set the code. Or the PCM isnt working properly .. either voltage source or internally bad. I would disconnect each associated performance sensor one at a time and give the engine a try. IAT, CTS, O2 types. I think the PCM will go to default and run anyway. Especially if you disconnect the battery for a while and clear the PCM you will start with factory settings. Even the Camshaft sensor you can do that and a good car will run. If it doesnt your at the problem area and need to trouble shoot the PCM. Ignition modules and coil packs get hot and do this check for spark quickly after a stall. Could get a cheap spark tester.. As for running rich. On a difficult start.. try just holding the throttle pedal to the floor while trying. Wont fix it but may start it. If the sensors summary information to the PCM are telling to run rich.. Seems like the sensors are NOT telling the PCM its warming up. IAT, CTS types. I would also suppose the O2 sensor must be in play after warmup and good RPM has been reached. I understand it will lean out the engine after its hot for better fuel efficiency. If its bad the engine would stay rich.. and run rich but I dont think it will create a stall. You said "LIke its running rich" Pull a plug after a stall and see if it is? If they are Java colored they are ok. Black rich.. White .. coolant leak. wet. etc. Or watch the exhaust smoke go black or not. . Or the PCM is defective.. Lots of those PCMs in the junkyard nowadays. Its like the brain is being told wrong what to do or the brain is crazy. heh. Good Luck
