Re: vacumm ball 97 astrovan

Correct. One hose only. It is only a reservoir to maintain vacuum for the HVAC controls while the engine is under load and not making adequate vacuum.

Re: vacumm ball 97 astrovan

I assume your problem was "All HVAC air flow comes out the defroster only". The vacuum reservoir only has one connector. The vacuum line routes from there to a vacuum tee/check valve. One side of the tee goes to a fitting on the PCV valve, (which is usually the line that breaks). The other side of the tee goes to the heater mode switch in the dash. Hope this helps.

Re: vacumm ball 97 astrovan

thanks for the info. the blower works only if i jump power directly to the motor. i replaced the resistor, but i am beginning to think the resistor is bad it self. i have power going to the resistor but not through it. when the blower does go on it only blows through the floor vent. no matter what position i have the selector knob at. i don' have any heat so i checked the heater core and it was plugged with gung. using air and water i was able to clear some of it out. water now goes through it but is still have no heat. i am going to try flushing it out some more tommorrow so i can get the heat going again. any further ideas or clues? 97 astro....thanks edsel....

Re: vacumm ball 97 astrovan

Does the blower even work on HIGH speed? Typically, the resitor array controls the three lowest speeds, and this circuit is routed through the normally closed contacts of the high speed blower relay. High blower speed is achieved by applying full battery voltage directly to the blower through the N.O. contacts of this relay. If the blower does not operate on any speed, the blower switch and/or HVAC fuse are suspect.

Meter the actual voltage at the blower resistor. If there is 12V at the resistor with everything connected, but nothing AFTER the resistor, that indicates a connection problem with the resistor and all but eliminates the possibility of a failing blower switch. If there is voltage after the resistor but no voltage on the purple wire to the blower motor, the blower relay contacts are suspect.

Re: vacumm ball 97 astrovan

hey great info, sorry i was unable to reply sooner but i am going to work on it today. i am getting power to the resistor but not after. i can jump directly to the blower and it will work. just bought a new resistor but then again it's autozone, usually junk(had to change a fuel pump 5 times before i got a good one dumb) anyway it appears to be a connection problem? first check and go from there. if that does'nt work i might just hook it all up direct!!!!again thanks edsel....

Re: vacumm ball 97 astrovan

by blower relay you mean the resistor or ? thanks edsel.....i have power to the resistor but not beyond. i jumped power to the other side of the resistor and the blower works but the blower just blows on high and the inside control has no effect. i have twelve volts to the resistor? thanks again edsel....

Re: vacumm ball 97 astrovan

If you apply voltage to the blower motor and it works, the blower and blower ground are both ok. With the key ON, and the blower switch ON*: if you have voltage at the resistor, the switch, fuse, and wiring are all ok. If you do not have voltage after the resistor, the resistor is faulty. If you have voltage after the resistor but not at the blower motor, the high blower relay is faulty.

*NOTE: Each speed on the blower switch sends voltage through a different color wire to the resistor, check each one.
