97 front end noise help

just bought a 97 lesabre, rides great,.......except i get an intermittent squeeking in the right front end(i am pretty sure its the right ,but kind of hard to tell at my age). also squeeking is definately more prevalent when i am making a turn. plus i also notice that when i drive over a speed bump.....i will
get a "thumping sound" when the car comes down off the bump. other than that the car rides great......took it to an alignment shop and they said the front end looks fine..........anyone else have these problems????

Re: 97 front end noise help

Well I can suspect the struts for the thump..

The brakes and such do squeak but will dissappear when the brakes are applied which how you discover their noises.

I suggest find that place where the squeak always occurs and get a expert to listen.. and the same with the thump.

Good Luck

Re: 97 front end noise help

The front squeak might be the ball joint (lower). Has it been greased since you got it? There are 2 or 3 zerks on each side in the front. Also, there is a short suspension piece that went bad on the front of my 97 Lesabre. It is a link of some sort. I think is called a control link or something like that. Mine just broke loose entirely on one end. From what I recall, it has rubber grommets. Those could be squeaking. With the control link broken loose, I could drive it, but it was somewhat unstable. Fixed it right away.

My 97 squeaked severely in the rear when going over speed bumps when I first acquired it. I greased the rear suspension and it really helped. I continue to grease the rear suspension now and then. There are 4 or more zerks on the rear. It still squeaks a little bit, but not as it did before.

Does the thumping sound come from the front or rear? Might try another shop. Something could be loose or broken. Ask them to drive it around some. Maybe they could drive it over some speed bumps.

Re: 97 front end noise help

My "thunk" was an inner tie rod on the passenger side.

Where are those rear grease fittings on the 97? I've been hitting the front ones at oil changes, but didn't know back ones were there.

Re: 97 front end noise help

Have to crawl under the back with the grease gun. Look up to the right and left. There is a stabilizer that runs across. There are at least 2 zerks on each side. I hit them about once a year with the grease gun. When I first bought the car I was hitting them more often until things quieted down. These squeaked very loudly when going over speed bumps. They still squeak a bit, but it is hardly noticable.
