Fan clutch removal\ Front crankshaft seal leak

2001 Chevy Silverado 4.8 Guys I'm getting ready to replaced the front crankshaft seal is leaking big time. I need to remove Fan clutch to get to harmonic balancer, but I'm having a hardtime taking out fan clutch from water pump. They told me that Fanclutch has reverse treads on it. Is that true? Also has anyone replaced this seal? FYI:Whenever taking out harmonic balancer U need to replace bolt that holds in HB.

Re: Fan clutch removal\

Yes the Fan clutch is reverse threaded.. it has to be, otherwise the it would work it's way loose and spin off.
Can't help you with the seal. Sorry

Leave the belt on, get a big wrench on the nut and tap on it with a hammer. A few wacks and it will come right off. The harmonic balancer can be a real bitch to get off sometimes. I've broke 2 pulley pullers taking it off. I always replace the bolt when I removed it as well.

GUYS HEADS-UP.... To remove Fan-Clutch U need a strap wrench there was no way I could take it out just smaking it with a hammer! Also Threads are as a regular bolt NO REVERSE THREADING. I bealive reverse threading is only on V6 engine's Fan Clutch. Something else when removing harmonic balancer it was REAL TIGHT even with puller. Ohhh Boy to install I had to hammer it back in. Rented an installing kit for Harmonic balancer but Kit didn't work supply bolts were to short. FYI-also Hamonic Balancer didn't have any type of mark to align it to TDC! So if U guys need to replace it make sure U mark it first!

Wow, I didn't have to use a strap wrench. I just left the belt on and beat on it a bit. Mine came off with no problems. I guess some are tighter than others. They now make a puller that is lsx specific, but the bastard is expensive as hell. Wouldn't be worth the money unless you was steady taking it on/off.
