Cold weather hangup

Yesterday morning it was about 15F, wind shill probably lower. Went out and fired up the truck, let it warm up about five minutes, then started to back out of the driveway and the truck was so sluggish I stopped to check if I had a flat tire. No flat, so I back out of the driveway, but it really felt as if the brakes were still on. I'm out in the street, so I pull forward, the same. I back up a bit, it felt like maybe it was a litle freer, but not so when I pulled forward again. My first thought was the e-brake was hung, but the pedal released and pushed down ok when I did that a couple of times. I finally parked the truck and took the VW to work.

I got home in the evening and tried out the truck, it was better, drove it up and down the street.

My first thought was the e-brake cable was iced, or the brakes themselves maybe frozen (although the truck had not gone through any puddles the night before, I actually had that happen on an old Datsun many moons ago), but why would it seem to loosen up going backward but not forward? Could it be a transmission issue, I saw another thread where cold trannies don't shift up right away, but this seemed as if I had a foot on the brake. My wife said a coworker has a Jimmy that does the same thing in the cold.

Re: Cold weather hangup

You Know I Have Noticed The Same Thing Recently With My '03 1500HD especially with the Cold Weather Illinois Has Been Having Lately..The Thing Is With Mine Is That It Kinda Hangs Up When Reversing But Going Foward Seems To Be Fine..After The Truck Gets To Driving Temperature It Reverses Fine Also.. Anybody know what this might be..if anything

Re: Cold weather hangup

Maybe the rear-end oil has thickened and needs changing. A lighter weight oil may help..
