how to display SES codes?
is there a way to retreive SES codes?
light came on last week, stays on, car runs fine with no drop in performance. Do I need an OBDII reader or is there some procedure to display the codes? 2002 CXL Thanks in advance BOB

Re: how to display SES codes?
Some places like auto-zone will scan codes for free. For the SES light, the the most common cause is loose/misaligned/badly sealed gas cap. If the vous has a tether on the cap it could also get stuck underneath causing bad seal. I would check the cap first and if you find problem give it a few days with a few restarts to see if it goes away (the system runs a check every time it is re-started and needs a few 'good runs' of that before light will go out)

Re: how to display SES codes?
yes, I went to autozone and they used their ODBII reader
got a code P0440 "The PCM has determined that a malfunction exists in the evaporative emission control system" the guy there said it could be a number of things, ie catalytic converter, didn't have any more details I was hoping there was a way to display the codes right on the dashboard, my 95 Cadillac ODBI can display codes by pressing "off+warmer" on climate controls, then can cycle through all the codes. funnything, today the ses light was on for one minute, then turned off, first time it's off in a week.

Re: how to display SES codes?
evaporative emission control system is exactly what you would see for gas cap troubles, and because SES light went out after a minute today (back to the check that runs at startup time) it sounds like its happy now. Get gas in the last few days perhaps?
I don't think there is anything available for what you are asking about (code thing) |
