Identifications Needed.
Hi
I have the pics of the following cars but I am unsure of their chassis numbers. I am busy sorting all my pics into folders marked with the chassis number, so help ID’ing the cars will be appreciated. Gulf cars: Racing numbers, 2, 6, 24, 25, 194 (Short) Racing numbers, 2, 3, 39, 40, 41 ((Longtail) 39 was burnt out at the rear) Flemke’s car, The west Car, Lark long tail, Clinic model, Red GTR with the yellow GTR decal), Tuiles (Yellow scales livery), Hollywood(racing number 01), Fina Longtail, Italjet (racing number 8) Also, the 3 road version Longtail F1GTs. Apparently the chassis numbers are: 56XPGT, 54F1GT, and 58F1GT what are the colors of these 3 cars? Regards Kevin |

Re: Identifications Needed.
Ok, so if no supposed pics exist of 54F1GT, where is the car now ?
With regards to the fina Longtain, I have pics of it with the Bubble Headlamp Covers. Could you tell me which chassis ever had the Fina livery on. from there i will try and sort the pics. |

Present day, GTR #26R wears race number 42 which is obviously not accurate. It's strange that BMW's Mobile Tradition Group who currently owns that GTR would choose to number it that way too. Wearing number 43, GTR #26R actually finished the 24 hour race in 3rd place overall, whereas GTR #24R wearing race number 42 retired from the race. Present day - GTR #21R wears race number 8, but that wasn't always the case. Sometimes while racing in the 1997 FIA GT series #21R wore number 8 and other times it was #26R. Thankfully, GTR #23R was the only FINA longtail to wear race number 9. If it's new owner hasn't made any changes, it should still look like that today. If you have questions about specific photos you can share them and I can probably help you determine which car you are looking at. I don't actually organize my GTR pics by chassis number because of some of the confusion that occured with the swapping of cars in 1997. I keep them all segregated by livery since I find that to be so much easier. It may be a decision I'll end up regretting someday, but it works for me now. >8^) ER |

Re: Identifications Needed.
i see your point on the gtrs. it can be quite confusing. I have decided that any unknown pics will go into a main folder called GTRs and in there each chassis will have a folder. those that i can confirm go in their folder, those i can't: oh well, main folder there you go.
Thanks Peloton again for the help. My Mclaren folder will look a hell of a lot better. Ps, how many pics in total do you have, I have about 2500 (no duplicates) |

Re: Identifications Needed.
If you are just talking GTRs, today the number sits at 6,713 files in 80 folders taking up almost 2GB of hard disk space. I haven't swept for duplicates recently, and in some cases where I have shared files at multiple resolutions I will still have those 3-4 versions of it.
As for the total collection, today it contains 30,987 files in 754 folders registering right around 11.5GB. Not all of those are pictures though - and I save a lot of things that most people probably wouldn't even consider important. For instance, 2,381 of those files in 333 folders make up webpages that I have saved for archive purposes, 4,865 of those files in 79 folders are all of F1 models/diecast/etc. I also have a Printed Materials folder that houses 2,740 files in 36 folders - a portion of those are article scans. There's a lot of random stuff like that. You never know what may prove to be good resource material at a later date. I'm sort of a digital pack rat when it comes to the F1. If I tried to get an accurate count on just unique pictures of F1s I could do it, but it would take a significant amount of time. A good guesstimate is a little less than half the total figure. >8^) ER Last edited by Peloton25; 02-01-2007 at 08:40 PM. |

I try sync up the three drives at least every two weeks using an excellent directory comparison program called Allway-Sync. It propogates deletions and also does file versioning, which checks for files that may have been updated but still have the same name. Other folder sync'ing programs I tried would miss some of those changes. I really couldn't keep things straight without it. When I get my new desktop I'm planning to go with a RAID mirroring setup, possibly with an external hard drive for portability. >8^) ER |

Re: Identifications Needed.
All of a sudden i feel small.....
I am totally gob smacked..... My measly 2500 pics includes Pics, Magazine scans and models. I don't keep web pages as i find i never use them. you have more printed material than i have pictures. Do you tag each pic for easy search options ? ie date taken, livery, color, plate etc.... When did you really start having an interest in the car and when did you really start collecting all your pics and stuff ? Very Very Jealous |

Re: Identifications Needed.
No need to feel small. If you want something to really be jealous about - some people can afford to own the real thing.
![]() I've been at this for about 6 years I guess as some of the oldest F1 pics on my computer date back to the beginning of 2001. I didn't really start focusing on the F1s till about mid-2002 and found this forum shortly before my registration date. I don't tag my files - in fact I don't even change filenames when I don't have to as it helps prevent duplicates - but I do keep notes in the folders if there's important info I want to recall later. Most photos taken these days have built-in EXIF image details that include the date taken. Normally I can look at a thumbnail of a photo and tell what car it is, and where and when it was taken with little effort, so that helps a lot. One of my friends calls me the "Raymond Babbitt" of McLarens. >8^) ER |

Re: Identifications Needed.
So short a time yet so much information?
My interest began in about 1993 when the 1st information started to come out about it. I was imidatley impressed by Gordon Murrays clarity of thought and purpose. As a professional design engineer I was impressed by his ability to get people with the means to build such a car to commit to his personal vision with no interference or conditions. In some respects he is a very lucky man to get such an opportunity but my god did it pay off. At least for the owners and enthusiasts. He designed a car that has become a legend and I doubt it ever will loose that appeal. |

Re: Identifications Needed.
Yeah, Carbuilder. It has taken some doing to get so many pics and Scans of magazines etc.
My interest stared when i was in the UK in 95/96. but because i did not have decent access to the net for such a long time, i have only really been able to start research on the car indepth from last year. For 8 years i worked for a bank that did not allow access to the net for security reasons, and internet at home is too expensive here. we pay Sh1t loads to get broad band here. Thats also why companies limit us on downloads here. For me to get broadband here will sert me back $100 per 3Gb capped per month. and that doesn't include line rental. to add to the woes, our systems are forever going off line so sometimes we get net, sometimes we don't. We have one company here who have a monopoly on the telecomms industry and they are part owned by the government. so what they say goes. |
