Berlin 1997/8

Dear mclaron-o-philes..

The only occassion that i encountered a mcaren in the flesh, if you will, was in Berlin, around 1997..
I can still remember it vividly, it was a silver one sitting in the showroom of a bmw dealer.

Now I wonder which chassis number it had, and who the owner is now..

Thanks.

Re: Berlin 1997/8

Was it in Auto Salon(not sure of its location, is Güterstrasse near Berlin)? They always seem to have an F1 for sale therefore pinning down its chassis# could be difficult.
It could have been Schaefers as a show piece or before / after its service (again I am unsure of its location)

Re: Berlin 1997/8

Unfortunately I wasn't paying such close attention that far back in time. It could really be any number of cars in fact. With a photo or two we might be able to narrow it down, but even then, with silver cars it is very difficult. Do you recall the name of the dealership perhaps?

If not one of the dealers that is frequently associated with F1s that Greg mentioned, then (and I am simply speculating here) it could have been chassis #047 which is the car belonging to BMW AG, now kept in their Mobile Tradition Museum. I could see them rotating it through different dealership showrooms for a short period of time to generate some buzz about BMWs association with the F1.

makes sense, to show off the car to bring in people to buy BMW's - a nice marketing tool

Re: Berlin 1997/8

I do recall that it was sitting in the BMW dealer in the city centre, kurfurstendam or unter den linden..Either way, it was a very busy shopping street in the centre of berlin.
Also the price was 500.000 DM, a bargain nowadays if you ask me!!

500K DM??? That's only (at current exchange rates) 169,260GBP or $332,716.50. Are you sure it wasn't a mistake or that you were mistaken?
