squealing noise

i have a 98 cavalier 2.2 with aprox 130k, recently there has been this sqealing/whinning noise coming from the engine compartment near the ps pump and its a constant noise.at idle,when i drive etc, the whine increases/decreases as i drive or when i am in partk and step on the gas.i have changed the alternator(it was not charging all the time),the ps pump(that was noisey) and still cant find where its coming from, i took off the belt and turned the waterpump, thats quiet,the ac compressor pulley that was quiet too,belt tensioner moved with no problems either? any other suggestions,im running out of patience and money

Did you changed the belt itself?

yes brand new belt when i installed the new alternator,not sure if it is the belt tensioner, or the idler pulley or the waterpump, with the belt off the waterpump seems to be quiet but im assuming that doesnt mean it cant be alot noisier when you have a belt on it and the engine is turning 800 rpm,

have 1989 corisca, 4 cyl ,a/c factory. Have a loud squeeling noise have the engine has run under pressure for about 10 to 15 minutes. Alternater went bad first change it , changed belt and idler pulley still same noise help

I had a noise once....it was the A/C compressor clutch.....it was not spaced far enough from the compressor so when it turned, it rubbed the compressor clutch agains tthe compressor itself...which made a metal squeal noise......cost me $130 to have it spaced properly and has never done it since, and that was 3 months ago...
