Locked in 4WD low

I let someone take my 99 blazer for a test drive, he repaid my kindness by pressing 4wd low while still moving. now it is locked in, the transfer case is jammed, have removed the control unit from the side and tried to move by hand, it won't release
front driveshaft has been removed, so no binding between axles
Do I have to remove and strip transfer case or does anyone know of a simple solution

Re: Locked in 4WD low

dont know how much you know about your blazer but with mine i had been stuck in 4 low for a while... i put the car in reverse and hit the 4 hi button... it started flashing... then i put it in drive while the light was still flashing on 4 hi and it clicked into 4 hi... from there i just hit the 4hi button again and poof four wheel drive was off!

Re: Locked in 4WD low

Sometimes the backing up will do the trick, it sounds like the transfer case is binding. Try putting it in reverse and back up a little, press the 4hi button, while its flashing on and off pop it in neutral, you may just be lucky and it pops out.

Re: Locked in 4WD low

Depends on case type so if 4 button selest neutral by pushing the 2 buttons at the same time (side line indicates which ones) and that will pop you out then select 2wd. Also can pull the vac line at firewall solenoid and see if that releases it. If 3 button can't do this so try pulling the vac line drivers side underhood that goes down to transfer and see if that releases, or gently hit the encoder motor to free movement up. Then try the old pull the battery cable or 4wd fuse for 30 mins and see if the TCCM resets.

Exclamation Re: Locked in 4WD low

"have removed the control unit from the side and tried to move by hand, it won't release"

Are talking about the electric shift motor assembly on the side of the transfer case?

If you are, then you'll not be able move the shifter with your hand. Use a 8" cresent wrench on the shifting stub. Rock it back and forth (clockwise and counter clockwise motion) with moderate force to see if it frees up. If it doesn't free up then your looking at taking the tranfer case out and disassemble to repair it. Also, check your oil level in the case. Low oil can cause sticking problems and worst.
