Question Help on 99 Suburban

We purchased a 1999 Suburban 4x4 back in April of 2006 and have been nothing but pleased with it.

When we bought it, there were some minor problem. First, there is the all-to-common door lock problem. The driver door never unlocks except by the key and the other locks are sometimes slow to lock. I have a sinking feeling the problem lies with the switch on the driver door because I have replaced the acctuators to no avail. Does anyone else share this theory?

The next odd problem involves the interior lights. None of the window and door switches as well as the radio controls iluminate when the light switch is turned on. Again, I feel the issue is with the switch on the driver's door becasue I attempted to replace the tiny bulb in the switch with a known working one. Immediately after turning the light switch on the bulb came on and then burned out. Has anyone heard of the a door switch causeing so much havoc?

The last little problem involves the doors themselves. They all seem to bounce up and down over rough spots in the street. I know his is not normal. At first I thought the striker bolts were missing some sort of plastic to absorb the impact of the door, but I have since tossed this conclusion. I am at a total loss on this one now.

We are preparing to drive to a competition about 600 miles away, so I am trying to get these little issues resolved. I know everyone here will do all they can to help me get these solved and I would like to thank everyone in advance.

Re: Help on 99 Suburban

I have the same problem and I think it is the rubber hat is missing from the part that grabs on the striker bolt. How do we fix that problem? If you look at the back door, the part that grabs the door has rubber on it. So I have come to the conclusoin that this is the problem and how do we fix it?

Re: Help on 99 Suburban

My driver's door does the same thing. The bushings for the hinge pins are cracked and allow the door to move. There is a company that sells a replacement hinge assemblies that advertises on AF but they only sell to shops. Their web site is pretty informative. I just haven't gotten around to fixing mine.
I have the same problem with my door actuators. If you already changed the actuators it might be in your switch.
