Transmission overhaul questions

I am thinking of overhauling my 91 accord's automatic transmission because it hard shifts and whines during first and second gear. The car only has 100k on it so would like to keep the car. I have tried replacing the fluid many times and Trans-x on recent replacements. I believe an overhaul would take care of this problem. I was wondering: Is this a logical fix, How difficult this process is, What special tools will be needed, and What parts would I need to fix this problem? Thanks for your time.

Very hard to do yourself. If you want to put money into the car, look for a rebuild or junk yard replacement.
