528.... power options?

I have a '98 528i Manual, and Im looking to get another 30 hp out of it, what are my options? I'd like to keep it fairly quiet, so a BIG exhaust is out of the question, and I'd like to keep it smooth..... would supercharging be an option? I'd be fine with the extra 50 hp, lol.

Try a chip. Bavarian Autosport, Dinan, and Autothority (in addition to many others) all ought to have chips for your car. At www.bavarianautosport.com, you can input your year and model, and all upgrades and accessories for it will be listed by category (performance, interior, exterior, etc.). Depending on how much you want to spend, you could easily get 220+ hp from your car. A chip alone (good for 200+ hp) would probably be a relatively inexpensive $300 or so.

Yes, I mean 200+ total horsepower--so if your car has 190, the chip might raise the output to 203 or a similar figure. But you can also get a new flywheel, camshafts, slightly more aggressive exhaust, headers...check all that at www.bavarianautosport.com.

I'm sure supercharging is an option for your car too--the 2.8L inline-6 is of course a very popular BMW engine. I know Steve Dinan has supercharged E36 M3's (see Road & Track, July 1997), and I'm sure he has a kit for a 528i as well.

Of course you're getting into a lot more money then!
