Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
Guys, I'm going nuts.
I am trying to ship out a front bumper cover. It's a 3000GT '97-'98, dimensions (packed) = 81X23X24 , 15 lbs. I have been to 6 different places today trying to get this out. No one would take it, because apparently its a little over their girth limits for ground shipping. After getting 3 hours of runaround on the phone and in the car, I finally got to FedEx Freight. And yeah, they wanted $1200 for it to be shipped form CA to FL. Now, I'm not a very seasoned seller. But $1200 for a fucking bumper? What the hell is going on? What am I doing wrong? The average shipping cost on eBay for car bumpers is only around $150. |

Re: Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
Have you tried getting some freight quotes? That's fucking nuts, $1200 is wayyy too much. Have you tried DHL? It seems to me that when I get larger items, they always come from DHL.

Re: Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
I would contact a few of the sellers on ebay and ask who they use to ship such items. $1200 to ship a bumper is outrageous.

I would also suggest giving DHL a try.

Re: Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
I would pick it up and deliver it for $1100... that's $100 cheaper than Fedex... I'll hook a brother up... tell me where ya live, and I'll pick it up and have it delivered overnight, no extra charge
![]() lol, but seriously, $1200 is outrageous... might as well throw in the rest of the car for that amount...

Re: Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
Ok guys, here is the deal. I just sold a rear fender on ebay for my buddy. I was originally quoted 40 bucks by UPS ground. Turns out I can only ship it UPS freight and it costs 120 bucks. The dimensions are practically the same as your bumper Shpyder. You should have no more than 120 bucks in shipping that thing. Take it somewhere else.

Re: Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
I just did a random quote on freighquote.com and if picked up and dropped off at a residential address in San Diego and Orlando (random city in FL), it would cost $257.50 for UPS Freight and $280.04 for FedEx National LTL. See now, if it was dropped off and picked up at a UPS carrier terminal, it would only cost $137.50. Now if there is a Old Dominion Freight Line terminal anywhere near you, it would be $152.18, and a FedEx terminal would be $181.53 (but would get there 1 day faster)

Re: Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
Hmm...I don't know what the heck is going on. I spend the entire morning yesterday running around, and just could not get this thing shipped out.
Apparently, it just exceeds the dimensions for Ground service. It's all in the packing too. Does anyone know where I could get a bumper box from? Trying to fabricated a box from bits and pieces for this thing is going to a be a PITA. |

Re: Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
Go to an autobody shop and see if they have any laying around or will save one for you. They usually get their bumpers in boxes and what not so I'm sure they'd have something. And like I said, check out some freight companies, I found some very reasonable prices.

Re: Trying to ship a bumper cover...$1200 !?!?
I finally shipped it out. I custom made a box all night long for it, making sure it was strong enough, etc. Final dimensions: 72 x 25 x 21, 23 lbs weight, from CA to FL. A very reasonable $100 via FedEx Ground.
What a f-ing hassel and drama. The bumper came to me shrink wrapped and bubble-wrapped in the first place, so I assumed it would be okay to send it back that way. Boy was I wrong. And this was really well wrapped too: tight and solid, with no risk of a tear or unwrapping. They just flat out refused to help me. Everyone, UPS, US Postal, and FedEx. I'm just going to start boxing things now. It's not worth me "hoping" it'll go through with n0n-conventional wrapping. |
