Re: FOund an engine

Stock engine good to over 600 hp? No chance. Sure it would be a good engine, but I would never push stock rods or Topline pistons to 600 hp. If you are looking for a performance engine, get a performance engine, not that one. If you are looking for a stock rebuild, look around. I know a guy that sells stock rebuilds for about $1000 out the door.

Re: FOund an engine

I don't know dude, that's not much more of an upgrade from stock. It's got some ported stuff, but they're still running stock rods (they claim to be cryo'd, but for the cost of that you could buy new aftermarket ones) and they're running Topline pistons, which are like stockers. $2500 seems a bit expensive to me for running a near stock motor. You could buy a used 6-bolt and put in new parts that would cost less than that.

EDIT: Damn you Dustin!!

Re: FOund an engine

As for ebay turbos, I wouldn't trust a single one of them unless it was from a user that you bought good parts from before. Normally they're glued together and will just fall apart. As for the intercoolers, most of them hold up just as well and function as good as a $1200 GReddy one.

What are your plans for this car? Build it up to a decently modded street machine? If so, I suggest selling the 7-bolt and dropping in a 6-bolt. 2g pistons on 1g big rods, new rings, bearings, and a nice tune-up should put you at more than enough strength to push 400hp all day long.

my plans for the car is to pull 380 hp but 400 would be perfect for now..... WEll for sure i need to rebuild the engine or swap it, im thinking about a Big 16g would be good, intake, exhaust( got it already), new brakes, new suspension, better radiator(just want a new one), intercooler system, new drive train, short shifter, thinking of rebuilding the tranny, imma powder coat my rims black.....oh yea i want to sound proof the interior(i know it wont be be all sound proof), racing seats, later on work on the exterior because right now i live in Bartsow which is desert and there is too much sand and dirt and if work on the exterior its only gonna get all messed upand etc...(other engine mods). I know i have money to invest but thats no problem at long as it is decent....

Re: FOund an engine

I would hold off on the build until you really know what you are dealing with. All that shit you rattled off there is going to cost you a ton of money. You will need a good bit more turbo to get 400 hp than a big 16, especially if you plan to get anywhere near that on pump gas.

If you are really going to go with some forged internals, you should get a 6 bolt. Look around on eBay, extremepsi, and SBR to get a feel for prices. You can score some good deals, I got my Eagle rods and Ross 9:1 pistons slightly used for about $320 shipped . Just keep reading, you have a lot of it to do to gain a good working understanding of what it takes to make a 400 hp car.

IIRC, that guy's engines are bone stock rebuilds and require cores. Ok deals, but that is not including shipping or better internals or anything.

Re: FOund an engine

GSXFREAK, I think you just need to focus on the motor right now before looking to upgrade the brakes, drivetrain, and all that good stuff. All that stuff stock will be able to handle 400hp, you'll just need to upgrade the motor. I agree with Dustin, go with a 6-bolt. And upgrading your radiator because you want to? That's a complete waste of money.

Not to jack the thread, but my stock radiator is cracked, should I order OEM or go ahead and upgrade( plans for 50-trim before end of year)

Re: FOund an engine

An OEM one from the dealer will cost you your left arm. I would check ebay or www.car-part.com for a used radiator. A radiator is a radiator and unless you're putting out 1000hp, a stock one shall do just fine.
