98 Cutlass A/C switch cycles on and off...

I have an A/c switch on my 98 Cutlass that cycles on and off. I went to the junk yard and replaced the whole switch control in the dash, still does it. Is it a bad relay? Can anyone help?

Also, read alot about blower fans not working. Mine started acting up when it wouldn't work for 2-5mins and now it doesn't work at all. I am thinking a relay instead of resistors. Is this correct? Thanks for you help.

Sounds like 2 problems. On the A.C. does a light light up or you just hear it kicking in and out?. On the fan better check obvious first. If fan does not work at all either fuse or bad motor most likely cause. Good Luck.

The AC compressor kicks in and out while the control knob is in the defrost and defrost/floor positions.

Air conditioners are supposed to run in the defrost position. It is to keep the humidity off the winshield. There is noting wrong with the A.C.

When the A/C light cycles on and off, the compressor also cycles on and off. I don't have it on any defrost position at the time this happens. It also doesn't matter if it is on recirculate or the fresh air setting.

If that's the case, it could be a ground or PCM problem.

Re: 98 Cutlass A/C switch cycles on and off...

Im am most certain that this car is running a defrost mode. However it may be a B ody Control Module problem. For that diagnoses you need to have the computer scanned. You need to get it done somewhere other than a local parts store, though because most of them only carry scanners that get codes. You need to know if the BCM is giving a command to turn on the A.C. or if there are any codes stored in it. Generic scanners found at, say, Auto Zone can not scan the BCM.
