Angry 97 S10 won't start--no dash response

2 days ago I started my truck and it ran fine for about 5 minutes then I heard a few loud clicking noises coming from the glovebox at that time the speedometer when nuts and then it stopped running, but it started right back up when i turned the ignition.
The same day leaving work I started the truck to let it warm up but it died right away, but again it started right up and had no problems getting home.
Now here is the fun stuff...Yesterday morning I got in the truck and had a hard time getting it to start, finally got it to start. while going down the road it stalls twice but was able to start it by "popping" the clutch, but the third time it just dies out completly.

The fuel pump, headlights, dome lights and radio all come on but nothing on the panel (check engine light, seatbelt light or gas gauges etc..) is responding and all of the fuses look good. I have about 3 gallons of fuel in ther tank so I'm not out of gas. What I am wondering is what is the connection between the panel not working and the truck not starting. It will crank just not turn over.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Do a search for "Ignition switch". It should answer some questions and give you some things to check.

the click from the glove box is exactly where the computer is - while the ignition switch could be to blame - check the ecm fuse - but im thinking the comp just took a walk . start at the ignistion switch ( actually the connector to the ignition switch - try wiggleing it while you hold teh key to start ).

Re: 97 S10 won't start--no dash response

On a '97, I believe the computer (ECM or VCM) is located under the hood on top of the windshield washer reservoir on the passenger side fender. Not that close to the glove box. Since the computers don't go bad that often and given the history of the ignition switch on the '97, I imagine the problem is in the ignition switch. The clicking heard is probably a relay.
