94 passport no shift
I have a 1994 passport that goes into reverse and also goes into 1st but wont shift to 2nd or higher. I know from reading some of these forums this seems to be an ongoing issue with these trucks. Also I'm having an issue with the brake light and rear anti lock light staying on. If anyone could help me resolve these issues. Please do.

i'm assuming this is an automatic transmission. does it go thru the gears if you shift thru the gears manually with the gear shift? or are you saying it you can't move the gear selector other than P R N 1 ? without further info, it sounds like the standard ole answer: the charging system, probably the alternator, but check the wires, the connectors, the grounds and especially first the connections at the battery. //bc

Re: 94 passport no shift
the truck will shit through gears manually. Just won't automaticlly. I put brand termanels on it already I check to see if there was a broken wire but couldn't find one. The issue I was talking about is to due with the voltage and there are certian silionds that blow from what I have been reading. But I'm not sure I don't want to spend a fortune to fix it.

Re: 94 passport no shift
I had the alternater checked today. Registers 14.02 when running. I drove it to the shop to have tested and the following problems accured. The truck will shift trhough all gears when cold but will only shift into 1st and 3rd when hot. the check engine light comes on then goes off. The winter button does not respond at all. but power button does. All lights light up when I first turn the key. Any ideas

i would start there. you might also want to start doing some searching and researching on the automatic transmission gear selector mode switch/sensor (it goes by different names). and...when they tested the alternator, did they do a test *under load*? if you don't know, find out. it could still be the alternator. //bc

Re: 94 passport no shift
well that's a *good* sign, in a way. that means there is probably a code stored in the diagnostic system. do you know how to jumper the diagnostic connnector and read the codes yourself?
No I'm not sure how to do this. |

Re: 94 passport no shift
read this thread which also has links to other posts for a detailed description of how to read the codes
once you know where your diagnostic connector is for your rodeo. I don't know where yours is, someone chime in with location ! here's the link http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=667340 //bc

Re: 94 passport no shift
This is going to be interesting. $5 says they recommend a new tranny.

Re: 94 passport no shift
Sorry to say now, but I would NOT have chosen AAMCO - even if it didn't need a new transmission - they will tell you that you do.

Re: 94 passport no shift
Ramblin Fever.... where is the CEL diagnostic connector on the 94 ?
and, yes just seeing the letters aamco gets one to squirm. my bet after rereading is, if its not the alternator, then it is the mode switch/sensor, and my bet is that a transmission shop is not even going to test it. //bc

Re: 94 passport no shift
Sorry, Trooperbc, forgot to answer that before, I meant to.
The CEL connector is under the dash, just under the latch to pop the hood, drivers side, left of steering wheel. No, I personally know for a fact AAMCO does not test the mode sensor OR the alternator - they tried to pull the $3k dollar crap on my tranny some 7yrs and 95k miles ago, when all it was was a faulty range mode sensor.
