TCC Solenoid Circuit

I've been having a problem with my tranny not shifting correctly, mainly shuddering and it feels like it is trying to skip right into 3rd from 1st. I can start off a little harder than normal and it will shift ok, but not great.
I had a friend pull codes for me and it showed the Torque Converter Circuit Solinoid open. Obviouly these would be dealer parts as the Advance and Autozone guys looked at me funny when I asked them about PCS and TCC solinoids. Dealership would not give up shop spec's to help me out either.
Is rebuilding the valve body easy enough to do at home? What is involved in doing this? Does anyone have any pictures or diagrams that would help me out?
I am pretty good with wrenches but have yet to tackle work on a tranny.
My wife had a flush done shortly after we bought the car a few years ago with 65k miles.
I have had AAmco quote me $2200 for rebuild and a friend $800 to swap wiht junkyard tranny which I am no to comfortable with doing. This is why I am looking into just rebuilding the valve body. Everything else seems to be working fine.
Anyone else have anything better to add to this and help me out?

Welcome to AF!

Unfortunately, you would be better off with another transmission or the rebuild. The TCC solenoid is a difficult job on these transmissions. It is very difficult to get to and usually costs around $500 just to replace the solenoid. It would be far better to replace this current transmission with a good used one for $800 than to try to redo the valve body on your present transmission.

Was the flush back at 65K miles done because of problems or as routine maintenance? I don't care what mileage the tranny has but a flush is a bad idea!!!! Valve body problems are common afterwards.

With the additional mileage accumulated since then I'd try a pan drop service and replace the ATF (Dextron-III) and screen filter first.

What was the specific TCC DTC? The most common are P0741, P0742, P1860 and P1887.

I did a pan drop last summer. The DTC codes i believe was a P741 but I dont remember the exact code. The flush at 65k was routine just because we had just bought the car and the fluid was just starting to turn dark.
I think I will look for a good used one that I can swap out at home. or at a friends garage.
