NOFX Rebuild Project (56K Warning)

I wasnt going to make a thread for my project because my digital camera came up missing, but I have found it now and I took a bunch of pictures the other night. A little backround on what I have been doing to it. My transmission took a dump back in October so thats how the whole thing got started. I took it apart and realized that my 3rd gear and intermediate shaft were totally screwed. So I decided to go with the TRE Stage 2 tranny with HD 1st-4th and HD Intermediate shaft and a few other goodies. I had pulled the motor and transmission out to get this all done and since I had the motor out I figured I would do a few things to the motor. I ordered the balance shaft eliminator kit along with a few other minor things. When I finished doing the balance shafts I checked the bearing clearances on the main bearings and was horrified. So I decided that while I had everything out that I may as well rebuild the motor. So I pulled the motor apart and when I looked at the bearing they had some wear on them, but it wasnt as bad as I thought. So made a list of things to get for the rebuild. I got clevite bearings, stock piston rings, all new valves, ARP head studs, main studs and Rod Bolts, and a Topline full engine gasket kit, Prothane motor mounts. I also noticed that my exhuast manifold had some cracking so I got a tubular manifold. While I was at it my friend ported out the exhaust side of the head and ported just a little bit on the intake side. So then it was time for the engine assembly. Being my first engine build I helped as much as I could but my friend did most of the work. I have to say that watching an engine get built is one of the most interesting things I have ever seen. So then it was time to put everything back onto the block and get it assembled. So I replaced all the vaccuum lines with the silicone hose that I got from Road Race. I replaced all of my coolant lines with braided stainless steel lines. So as of now the engine is almost completely assembled and ready to be dropped into the car. I really wish I had my camera through the entire process but unfortunatly these are the only pictures I got but I will post more as I finish up the car.

Here is a picture of the intermediate shaft that started this whole mess

Here is a picture of the replacement Stage 2 Tranny

Here is the Empty engine bay

Here is the tubular manifold

Here is a front shot of the motor

Here is the first shot of the new Braided Stainless Steel Coolant Lines

More Stainless steel coolant lines

More Coolant Lines

Rear shot of the engine

All my friends decided that my car was no longer a Mitsu

And they couldnt forget the all important NAAAAWWWZZZZ

Well I guess that is all for now. I am going to be dropping the motor in today hopefully so I will take some more pics and post them up soon.

Re: NOFX Rebuild Project (56K Warning)

Looks very good so far. How much you plan on putting down?

Also, where'd you get those stainless steel coolant lines from?

Me likey, me likey. I also want to know where you got those stainless steel lines, I want those. And do I spot some Racing Hart wheels? I have those exact ones for my Talon in 19's.

Re: NOFX Rebuild Project (56K Warning)

My dad works on tons of huge deisel engines, power generators, ect. So we have a ton of stainless line just sitting around in the garage. My neighbor also works for a company who makes all the stuff that goes up on satellites and he gets me all the stainless steel hard line or braided line that I want and he doesnt charge me either. It is a pretty good hook up. I am going to do all my fuel lines once I get my new FPR and Injectors. And the wheels are just knockoffs, I think they said Reaction or something like that on the caps but they are really strong wheels.

Damnit, I want that stainless steel line. I wonder where you can buy that at....hm....I'll be googling it up tonight I guess. And those wheels look EXACTLY like my Racing Harts.

Re: NOFX Rebuild Project (56K Warning)

Looks good, but its a shame you have to use those clamps on the lines... They are not actual braided lines tho, they are the rubber lines with a cover over them. Right?

Re: NOFX Rebuild Project (56K Warning)

No those are real stainless steel braided lines. They have a line of teflon through the inside but that is it. It is 4 in the morning here right now and I have more pics but I am way too tired to post them up right now. We got the engine and tranny in the car tonight. I will post them tomarrow. I also took a picture of all the stainless steel line that I have and how much more I just got. I will see about how much I might be able to get and work something out for some of you guys If I can.

Ohh ok... I just never seen one like that on a car before. I usually see real ones with AN fittings on them or fake ones. Thats pretty sweet. Ya know you can still get a bunch of those fake AN fitting covers off the internet and put them over the ends to make it look even better. I think some of the designs will allow it to snap over those clamps your already using too.

Re: NOFX Rebuild Project (56K Warning)

I think I am going to change a lot of those hose clamps over to something else. I have a few options that I am looking at so we will see. So I told my dad that we needed some more stainless line because we used most of the stuff that was that size. So he called our neighbor up and last night they made a trip and brought back presents. So here are some pictures of what they brought back plus all the other stuff that we have in the garage.

Here is what they brought back

Here is what we already had just sitting there

Here is the other bucket

Engine and Tranny about to go into the car

Finally, The Engine in the car

Re: NOFX Rebuild Project (56K Warning)

I am not sure what sizes exactly they are. I do know that I pretty much have every size to do all the lines in my car though. I think I am going to do my heater hoses too.

I also asked how much all that line that they brought back was worth. And they told me its worth a couple thousand. WOW!
