97 Safari starting issue
97 Safari has spark new fuel pump and intake replaced. Can hear the pump running when ignition is turned on and smell fuel . Held a Fluke current sensor against wires and it lights up accordingly. I am stumped as to why it won't run. I came home and the fuel gauge was acting strange by pegging past full and acting erractic while driving home. Parked the van and now won't start.
Thanks |

Re: 97 Safari starting issue
Your erratic fuel gauge may be a clue to the no start. The fuel gauge and fuel pump use the same ground to the vehicle frame. If that ground is poor or nonexistent, the fuel gauge will register high and the pump will not run, or run erratically.
Turn the key to the RUN position, (do not start the engine) while the pump is running fuel pressure must be a minimum of 60psi. After approximately 3 seconds, the pump will shut off; fuel pressure must remain above 55psi for several minutes. Post your results back here. |
