Temp sending unit connection

I replaced the head on my 93 2.3L SOHC. I put a new temp sending unit on the new head before installing it. Now as I am making all the connections, I find that the wire will not connect to the unit. Is it possible that the new unit has a different type of connection? If so, what do I do about that? I am not sure that I can get it back off since the engine is all back together, There is almost no room to get to it. I am also not sure which wire connects to it. I have one wire with a single black wire going to the connection( I am pretty sure this is the one that goes to it). But the connection on the unit takes a totally different type on connector.
Can anybody give any advise on what I should do? The car runs fine but I hate not having a way to know what the temp is incase it overheats.

No, You must have the wrong sensor.

All of the connectors are different, so none of them realy could be mixed up.

Probly will need to get the correct sensor.

You were correct, they sold me the wrong sensor. Got that fixed and revealed a new problem. I don't think the thermostat is opening. It wants to over heat. The fan is not turning on either. What tells the fan when to turn on? If I turn the AC on the fans starts, but without the AC on it doesn't. I let the temp get almost to the red and then shut it off. It used to only get about half way then the fan would kick on and it would go down.
If the thermostat is stuck closed, would that keep the fan from coming on? I also notice that the water in the radiator is still cold, even though the gauge is reading 280+.
Any ideas, advise?

Make sure thier are no air pockets trapped in you rcooling system.

Open the cap and turn you heater on full blast.
Might try and elevate the front of the car on a hill
and let is run to see if the level drops or overflows.
I cant remember if your model has a cooling system bleeder to purge the air... it would be high on the reciculator tube close to the water pump.

The temp sending unit is what tells the fans to kick on.
You could change the thermostat they are inexpensive and dont last forever.

If it doesnt start to flow then your water pump may not be working too.

I am hoping it is the thermostat. I will find out when I get a chance to work on it again tomorrow. The water pump looks like a pain.
I am wondering though, shouldn't the fan have still kicked on even if the thermostat is stuck closed or the water pump is not working?

The thermostat is a pita too.
Make sure thier is not air in your system before you replace the therm.

If the temp sending unit is working the fans should kick on around 220-225 deg anything stuck or the WP not working does not make a differance in the fans coming on.

That was the problem, bad thermostat. Put a new one in today and she is staying cool. And it was a pain, but thats easier that the water pump I'm sure.
