1999 Eclipse GSX (stock body)

Im taking Revells tuner Eclipse, and converting it to stock (bumpers and side skirt, and spoiler) trim. The only thing that'll be 'tuner' about this thing is the performance, which I plan to detail to the extreme (if I can figure out how to photo etch parts) So here we go. Whats one so far:
- Blitz front bumper shaved down, large holes filled with styrene, need to shpe center opening still
- Rear rounded bumper trimed down some, adding extensions on
- Ditched kit rubber, took tires from AMT's Eclipse kit, work great once rim is trimmed a little Pic of stock Eclipse GSX and my progress

compare kit tires (right) to meatier AMT ones (left)

Muffler from AMT kit looks much better on here.. need to repaint, this paint sucked

Heh.. that green one's not 'stock'.. that front mount wants to eat you.

Looks good so far. I really wish they would've had the stock bumpers option in that kit. Can't wait to see more progress. Don't forget to mod the side skirts.

Re: 1999 Eclipse GSX (stock body)

Aw, someone beat me to it. I had planned to build one like this along side my street/show GSX with the same performance goodies and then some, as well as the stock body kit, turbo spoiler, stock interior, and do a few things to cloak the mods like FMIC, big brakes, etc. So I'll be watching this one, I already chopped up my Blitz bumper, so I may have to use the Kaminari bumper. The wing is going to be kinda hard to get the correct shape, what do you plan on using? Are you cutting a sunroof for this one?

Do you have a GSX by any chance? I could really use a couple reference pics...

Re: 1999 Eclipse GSX (stock body)

bhop - Yea I will definatly be doing the side skirts, no worries.
daklunk - I know tat the GSX had the sunroof, but I dont know if I want to put one in. Could just be a GSX with a roof panel grafted on from another Eclipse. haha No I dont have a GSX, but oh man do I wish I did tho.

Theres quite a bit I have to show. First up the turbo I made. Still looks a little rough, will probably smooth it out later. Now give me your honest opinion, does it look too large? Or does it look good at all? haha.

Still need to strip chrome on parts.

Made some cam gears. Still a little rough, and I might add the teeth on the gears.

Now for brakes. I was originally going to buy some photo etch brakes, but no money. So I decided to kitbash and use the brakes from Hasegawas Toyota Corolla rally car. Eclipse is gonna look way better now. Will also use the photo etch seat belt stuff thats in the Corolla kit.

Also stole the intercooler from the Corolla (need to trim the radiator around it, and the alternator and power steering pump from an AMT Prowler kit (need to take the pulley off the pump still)

Schweet. Stock bodied Eclipses are better than any body kit out there IMO.

Very much agreed.

Ok heres a wee bit more. Got the rest of the front engine cover trimed down and the power steering pump and alternator stuff figured out. Heres some mock-up pics.

And it all in the engine bay. You know the realism is adding up when everything is beginning to cram itself in... just like a real car. haha

Re: 1999 Eclipse GSX (stock body)

Looking pretty good! LOL, the prowler kit is what I'm using for some parts! So far I've robbed it for an oil cooler, axles, and other small pieces. Nice details. If you are going to add an oil filter and cooler adapter, it'll drive you nuts trying to fit it correctly with the alternator and PS pump... the mongo turbo I plan on using isn't helping much either. Yours is looking just fine size wise, but I think it sticks out a little far towards the radiator.

Watching this makes me want to dig up my Eclipse thread... wouldn't mind swapping ideas with someone...

The turbo looks ok to me, but is the radiator and fan gonna fit?

Re: 1999 Eclipse GSX (stock body)

Wow, great minds must think alike, using the prowler for parts. haha. Yea I agree that it sticks out a bit far. Luckily this is only a mock up pic, so I'll be able to figure everything out. As of now only the radiator will fit. I plan on making some lo-pro fans, but from the looks of it I'll need to re-do the compressor (?) part of the turbo, if not the whole thing. We shall see. Oh by the way, both of you Eclipses look real good. Bhop, I htink you have inspired me to make my own rear seats. Daklunk, open that baby back up! haha

Re: 1999 Eclipse GSX (stock body)

^^^ That is the best site ever! They need one of those for every car! I have every pic on that site on my workbench laptop. And then I have 2 disks worth of reference pics... Enough detailing to drive a person insane!!!

If you want some low pro fans, shave that thick chunky plate of plastic off the kit fans, they look better as individual units. I'll be using the fan from the prowler, I have the rest of the rad shaved off and hopefully sometime soon I can resin cast it... I'll reopen my thread as soon as I get more done to the Magnus intake and the exhaust, which shouldn't be too far off.

Re: 1999 Eclipse GSX (stock body)

Took this out and dusted it off. Alot of work to go still but the front is taking shape.

Takes shape with the hood and headlights mocked up.
