Another Engine Boging question

Hi, I have a 96 cavalier and when i rev it up sometimes it will bog way down and will almost seem as though it will die. like another user has posted it sounds like a low grumble but the weird part is it doesn't do this all the time and it also doesn't seem to matter if I'm on wet or dry pavement. Although i do notice this more after my car has been shut off for less than a couple hours after a 15-20 minute drive. This cavalier is the most stripped down version so i don't believe there is a traction control but i could be wrong. It does have abs if that helps with traction control. Thanks in advance for any advice.
