Transmission Swap Advice
Me again with another annoying problem!
Ok, this is how it goes. In my '89 I have the Mazda 5 speed transmission (four w/ o.d.) and a guy i go to school with says he has a 4 speed C6 out of a Jeep. He said it's a Borg Warner (same as my transfer case) and is stamped with the Ford logo. It was on an early 80's jeep frame that he bought. First: It's geared low. Would this be bad? Second: Would it bolt right up in? He said there should be no problem but i want to make sure... Third: This is the stupidest question. Everything i've found so far shows a manual 3 speed C6, but no 4 speed C6 (it's a manual, by the way.) Could 4th gear be mistaken for Reverse? I havn't seen the tranny or the motor out of it yet. I don't want to drive way out where he lives for nothing. I'm not the greatest with transmissions but i know mine is slowly heading downhill and i don't have the money to rebuild it. Opinions? |

Re: Transmission Swap Advice
The C6 is an AT, if memory serves.
You could probably swap it without many problems. My 87 has a NP 435- 4 Spd MT. It's also geared low with synched 1st gear, so it's more like a 3 speed with Granny rather than a 4 spd/ Overdrive-if you get my point. this may help... http://www.motivegear.com/tech_info/...nny_guide.html |

Re: Transmission Swap Advice
ford never made a 4 speed or manual c6. low first is good for off road, but no overdrive means its not gonna do so good on the highway. if the bronco is your daily driver, would stick with the m50d you have now.
