2003 Yukon XL 4x4 Push Button Problem

I own a 2003 GMC Yukon XL 4x4 SLT w/Autoride. Lately when starting the truck, cold or warm, it sporatically starts in 4WL and Service 4WD is displayed. This problem is completely unpredictable. When in 4WL, you cannot just push button out of the problem. I brought the truck to a reputable service shop a week ago and the owner/mechanic stated it was the 4WD Control Module, which he replaced. Now, $490.00 later I still have the same problem. The mechanic is fully backing up the repair, but he is a bit stumped as to the problem. There are no fault codes noted.

Has anyone here had the same or similar problem. I would really appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

All the best, Michael

Normally you must access the bcm to look at any codes, this requires a full line scanner.

Re: 2003 Yukon XL 4x4 Push Button Problem

I had the same problem. it is the push buttons. you can replace them or pull the dash treim off by lowering the steering wheel and shifter. it then pulls off easily. Remove the button module and using small flat screwdrivers, unlock the switch and open it up. remove the rubber parts and youll see a little printed circuit that looks like a potato masher. you will see it is carroded. clean it with a pencil eraser. clean the contacts in the rubber actuator and reassemble. you may need a paperclip to reinsert the rubber parts.
