rough runner, HELP!!!!!!!1

I HAVE A 98 MYSTIQUE,,, When I am driving it has a bad jerking like it wants
to quit no matter if the overdrive is on or off, and when it is idleing it goes up to normal speed then drops to almost a staul then back up and so on
could this be a fuel filter?
where is it located on the fram or is it under the hood?
any suggestions .
If I dont get it fixed I AM GOING TO LOOSE my truck to my wife HELP!!!

This sounds like what was happening to me. I changed fuel filter it is located on passenger side towards back under back door. It didnt work but cheap try. Replaced spark plugs and wires (thought i had a misfire). Tried fuel injector cleaning. All cheap attempts. Most recently I had an idler pulley break on the timing belt. Replaced that and reset the timing and havent seemed to have any trouble since. Its only been three days since i did that but its running like a champ. Pulley ran $60 at dealership. You can get both idlers and tensioners for 120 at Autozone.
