I'm more of a NA person but today........
I have question about turbocharging a Vtec engine. Why is it persons are afraid of turbocharging a Vtec Engine? Is it so much harder than a non-vtec? And is it recommended?

I heard you want vtec to kick in later if you have a turbo, but im not sure if its true. If its better to run turbo on non-vtec, couldnt you just disable the vtec? or would that be a problem?

Dude, VTEC will give you MORE power with or without a turbo!

then why do i hear negative things about running vtec and turbos, because you have to tune it better?

The high end performance delivered by vtec sometimes gets regarded as [silly] sometimes because you are doubling your power for high rpm. Say if you tune your turbo to give good boost between something like 2-5 thousand rpm, then allow your vtec to take over at 5+, you will be at an advantage by distributing your intake modifiers for different ranges.
I have also heard rumors about losing significant gas mileage with a turbocharger, one of the big great ideas of v-technology is that you get incredible mpg. Something you might not care about as just an autocross or drag racer.

So the biblical scholars mis-translated the Hebrew word for "young woman" into the Greek word for "virgin," which was a pretty easy mistake to make, since there is only a subtle difference in the spelling. But back then it was the "virgin" that caught people's attention. It's not every day a virgin conceives and bears a son. So you keep that for a couple of hundred years, and the nexy thing you know, you have the Roman Catholic church. -Snatch |

There a link in the FAQ that has something like a 350 horsepower civic si that gets like 29 MPG.... pretty impressive.

yep, as long as you don't tune your car overly rich you shouldn't see to much of a decrease in gas. Now if you drive down the highway at full throttle, you'll notice your gas gauge start to drop.

Why would you tune your car to be running rich at all? Stoichmetric is where is should be and if you're tuning youre gonna lean it out as much as you can, safely. Its not about dumping fuel into your engine. |

I know that, but say somebody doesn't put their car on a dyno. Say they only have a vafc or safc to lean out the fuel. Well in that case, you would want your car a little rich due to the fact you can't really tell if your gonna be running too lean. A little rich means alittle more safety. Now if you put your car on a dyno, you shouldn't have a problem getting your a/f perfect.
