2000 3.0 Ranger CPS

Hello to all. I am working on a 2000 3.0 Ford Ranger. I removed the camshaft sensor to eliminate that terrible sqeak that was happening. Got rid of the sqeak but did not pay attention to the position of the CPS.

Not my timing is off. What is the proper proceedure to re-time this motor. I have the special tool for this but no knowledge of what to do .

Any and all replies are always appreciated

Thank you in adavance. I will be waiting patiently opcorn:

Re: 2000 3.0 Ranger CPS

i am almost certian that the timing is computer controlled. so just replace the cps and it should be fixed. but i could be wrong.you can adjust your timing but you would have to flash your ecu or add a chip. or something like that with a program.

Re: 2000 3.0 Ranger CPS

Thank you for the reply.

I located the information on a site named- about: Auto Repairs.
It has an illustration that shows the proper way and how to use the tool. Pretty simple so far. Attempting the installation now as I type.

Only thing, the info is for a 1996 Ranger. It says the tool should be poitning towards the front of the engine. I believe that for the 2000 it should point towards the rear due to the original position of the sensor itself not the syncronizer.

I will post the outcome. Whether right or wrong with hopes it helps someone in the future.

God Bless

Re: 2000 3.0 Ranger CPS

That did it.

No squeaking nor sluggishness. And most of all-- NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT!

Have a blessed day to all!
