2001 Astro aftermarket fuel pump whine!

I recently replaced my fuel pump on my 01 Astro with an aftermarket assembly purchased from Autozone. The replacement went well and is working perfectly. Since the new pump has been installed, there is a constant "wind tunnel" type noise comming from the new fuel pump while the engine is running. Has anybody else experienced strange noises from after market pumps? Everything has been working fine for 2 weeks now just curious if others have noticed similar events.

What engine and what brand of AZ pump.
Was it anything close to dealer oem specs on fuel pump?
You may want to check fuel pressure and fuel filter?
Also read my moto below. For a one time hurt on parts.

Re: 2001 Astro aftermarket fuel pump whine!

Engine is the 4.3 v6 and the pump brand was Master. No clue what the OEM specs are nor what the replacement is. Fuel filter replaced not too long ago. There is no functional problem with the new pump so I'm not planning on the bother to check the pressure. Just curious if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

If you do not want to bother to check the fuel pressure then no use to worry about the whine.
When you use cheap after market parts you can expect many problems.
A whine can be caused by many things ,bad pump or sucking air or a overloaded pump or a poor mounted pump or voltage and ground to pump.

If it is whining it has a problem but still may be working.

When it quits whining or working you will find the problem.

Re: 2001 Astro aftermarket fuel pump whine!

I replaced my '97 pump with a Carter unit. It seems to make a little more noise than the GM original. Just enough to let me know it's working. I can't hear it with the engine running.
I can agree, sometimes i need to use OEM parts, but GM wanted $860.00 for the pump, in a box, not installed. The Carter one is coming up to 2 years old now.

Your dealer wanted to put a big hurt on you.
Next time shop around a little Some online site have AC delco parts at a discount and some dealers will cut you a better deal.
Even AZ sometimes offers the AC Delco OEM pumps at a good price.
And they come in a AC delco box.
And some places have the OEM type Delphi pumps.
Good luck

Re: 2001 Astro aftermarket fuel pump whine!

I'm in Canada. I phoned 2 GM shops, and 4 after- market guys.
$860 was the most, $460 the least, and the rest in the $550- $600 range
I think they have the attitude that you buy the part, or you scrap it, your chioce.
One fellow suggested getting a complete fuel tank at the wreckers. But these vans seem to go thru a lot of pumps, and the pressures change so often thru the years, I didn't think I'd go that route.
I thought about ordering one from the States, but then with duties, taxes shipping, etc., not to mention warrantee, I stayed with a locally sourced unit.

Sounds like Canada is a little higher than US.
I have been told the dealers there hold up there prices more to.
Glad you got one anyway and good luck with it.
