oil & antifreeze
PLEASE help me choose decent engine oil and coolant
i'm from Israel and here the mechanic will just fill your engine with olive oil and tap water without even blinking (so can't trust the shop). My cars are: 2001 Opel Corsa 99 Fiat punto Acording to the manual i need 10w-40 and 15w-40 vescosity. what brands of oil and coolant are consedered to be good? |

Re: oil & antifreeze
Any name brand oil is good, look for the SAE endorsement on the label, I think that just about any decent engine oil has a SE rating for service extreme, I believe that correct. It comes down to a matter of choice, Pennzoil, Castrol, Havoline, Superflo, Valvoline, Quaker State are all that I'd buy.
For coolant, you may need to refer to the manual that came with the car as far as compatibily and/or type that is required, but you can't go wrong with Prestone or Havoline. Bob |

Re: oil & antifreeze
These are the minimum standards
http://www.infineum.com/information/gaseng2004.pdf As long as oil meets these standards then you should be able to buy on price with confidence. |
