? bout my ring & pinion

I'm replacing my Richmond 4:10 with a 3:73. My biggest thing before I buy a new one is, what is the carrier series? There are two different ones, a 2 series and 3 series. It's the stock 10 bolt 7.5 and 7.65" Camaro rear end. It's going in my 99 SS

Re: ? bout my ring & pinion

you're gonna hafta open it up and look if you already have a richmond 4.10 set in there, since they make them for both 2 and 3 series carriers.

Look up the RPO codes on ur driver side door....if it says GU5 or GU6 then u get a 3 series carrier.

Re: ? bout my ring & pinion

It's a 6sp with a Richmond 4:10 already installed. The only reason for the change is the pinion is missing 2 teeth and the ring missing half of one. I had it opened up once just to see what the knocking was from. I'll check tommorrow for that code. Thanks for all the help.

Re: ? bout my ring & pinion

If its an aftermarket rear end the code would not reflect the aftermarket. Should tell you what the stock rear is.

Nice looking car there, welcome to the forum.

If you have a 6sp then you have a 3 series. No need to check RPO's cause all the ring gears available for your rear are 3 series.

Re: ? bout my ring & pinion

Last question...I have been looking through the install kits and I must be looking to far into it cause Richmonds kits are only up to a 1998 10 bolt 7.5 & 7.65 rear end. I thought they were the same as the 1999 and up? I do appreciate all the help from everyone. Thank you again

Re: ? bout my ring & pinion

Torsen units where used starting in 99 and if I remember right, I think something with the axle seperator bolt might be different but besides that, you are correct. They are the same and should be able to use the same install kit.
