Honda CB 750 Four - the MOTHER of all 1:6 Tamiya motorbike kits!

In the year 1970, when I set my first footsteps in the modelling world, Tamiya started producing this huge 1/6 motorbike kit. It's n° 1 kit in the "Big Scale Series", the very first of a long list of 1/6 motorbikes. At that time this milestone in modelling history didn't attrack my attention, in fact it would take another 15 years before I would build my first Tamiya kit ever.

To me, even the real 1/1 Honda CB 75 Four is the mother of all modern motorbikes. When we were just little boys and we saw a Honda CB750 come by, we always admired this Japanese wonder of technical superiority.

As if I needed yet another reason to build this model, my brother and I were given a Polistil diecast motorbike back in 1970 as a gift by my parents. I received a Harley Davidson and my brother a ... Honda CB 750 Four. We both still have that model, in good condition as well!

A year or so ago, Tamiya re-issued this famous 1/6 kit. Before that re-issue it used to be a very expensive and rare kit, now it suddenly became very reachable and looking at my Honda CB750 history I just had to get this one. Today has come the day that I decided to start building it. It wasn't an easy decision, because building the kit also means losing it as a kit. But ok, kits are designed to be built and not to be collected...

So here we go.

After a lot of adventures which mainly costed me frustration and starting over (which I will spare you) I finally achieved the gold painting stage. After spraying them with primer I spraypainted a few layers of Tamiya gold.

Next I fixed the decals and I finished the parts with 2 layers of gloss coat (Gunze Sangyo).

Fantastic work - super kit by a great builder! Can you put something next to the parts so that we can get the idea of a scale?

Guy,

this is a great WIP thread and a fantastic job so far !!

On the carburetor you used Tamiya Smoke for a wash, what did you use on the engine/gearbox?

Also Tamiya Smoke, but a lot more diluted with acrylic thinner.

The next thing I want to enhance are the spoke wheels.

After completing the second wheel half and fixing them together with the tire, the wheel looks like this:
