What can you people tell me about a 94 Lumina APV?

I'm looking at buying a 94 Lumina APV. The ad says 600 obo, but I was over there looking at it and he said "Make me an offer and it's yours". Apparently he bought it for his son, his son didn't like vans so it's been in his yard since August. This van has the 3.1 with 3 speed auto tranny. What are the good and bad points on these vans? Trouble spots to check for? What would be the fuel economy I could expect to get from this van? Anyone here who has one, let me know what you like and don't like about them and your overall opinion of them.

Re: What can you people tell me about a 94 Lumina APV?

My family owned one so..

Good
-room, cheap, not fuel wasting, compared to other vans of age, it looks cool (futuristic), much better than caravan, at the time.

Bad
-things can easly break, the back handle for the trunk, the doors can only open from one side after a while, as seen in other post engine dies, but never happend to me

afterall, of you like it, go 4 it, its a good deal and a good car.

These vans are strong. My family has one with around 250K miles on it. Ours has the 3.4l engine though.

Problems- back handle of the trunk broke (pops just milled a keychain out of aluminum that fits in place of where the handle used to go and can open the gate that way)
We have had some trouble with the alternator, distributor, and air condition going out, but after 250k miles what do you expect?

As was said above these Vans are sweet looking. Easily my favorite body style mini van.

Re: What can you people tell me about a 94 Lumina APV?

I love my 92 Lumina APV can fit all kinds of tools, sports, vacation stuff in it. Lately its been the hauler for my stepdaughters basket ball teams consesion stand. Have had the common winsheild wiper problem, the ignition moduale died, the alt. gave it up, presure side power stearing line went out. But it been a great rig other than that. Paid $100 for it and had to do brakes, wheel cylinder, battery, belt, tensioner, and filters etc. when I first got it. I figure I have about $1,100 into it now and have put about 14,000 miles on it. Mine also has a 3.1 wuth the 3 speed trans. I know it would get better milage with the overdrive, but I have heard they are a piece of crap and have problems.
