Does size matter?

Hello everybody

First of all apologies for my English, itīs not my mother tongue

This is my first post here, have been reading this forum and admiring your work for sometime, just didnīt dare to post my work yet..maybe someday

Anyway, got a question about size. Iīm building Porsches (Fujimi Enthusiast) and some older Ferraris in scale 1:24 and would like to make a diorama with the cars on a truck trailer. But the problem is i donīt seem to find car trailers in 1:24, but in 1:25, is the size difference big? Is it clearly visible? Would my cars look out of scale on a 1:25 trailer? The truck anyway will be in 1:24 scale.
Also, would be grateful if somebody would know where to find or have links to some older trucks, my cars are mainly from the 70īs so itīd be nice to have the same era truck

Thank you already in advance for your answers
Oh, and you guys indeed built some incredible models..all i can do is wonder and admire

Jose

Re: Does size matter?

this is my 1:25 trailer (revell) full with 1:24 cars (all tamiya).

i have made the trailer a litttle bit wider and it's a squees to get some cars on the lower ramp. It's impossible ot get the enzo on the lower deck, lukily the porsches are a little bit smaller.
It's a nice and place saving solution ;-)

BTW English in't my native languge neither

Thanks very much for your answer!
That pic of the trailer youīve built confirmed my plans, iīll buy the 1:25 trailer and just modify it a bit, like youīve done..

Re: Does size matter?

Welcome to AF, 944x2! We will look forward to seeing you post some of your work.

The 1/25 trailer should fit 1/24 cars just fine, and there shouldn't be any obvious difference in scale. But something to keep in mind is that exotic cars are almost never carried on open air trailers like the 1/25 Revell kit. Insurance and safety reasons demand that Ferraris, Porsches and similar are carried in hard or soft sided covered carriers like this-

This is a BMT (Bavarian Motor Transport) truck- a company that hauls BMW's in the US.

Exotics also are often carried individually for short distances on flatbed towing trucks-

But seeing them stacked in open air carriers is almost unheard of.

Re: Does size matter?

The difference between 1/25 and 1/24 is about 4%. A 100" wheelbase in 1/25 scale will be exactly 4", and in 1/24 scale it will be almost 4-3/16". a 70" wide car would be 2.8" in 1/25, and 2.92" in 1/24. The differences are slight, and not always that easy to see, especially with two totally different cars. You shouldn't have to perform TOO much surgery on a trailer to widen it enough to fit a 1/24 car.

I bet cars like the Enzo won't fit on a lot of trailers meant for 'common' cars either. Notice in that last pic all the Testarossas are on the top deck of the trailer, and the cars on the lower deck have their fenders capped to protect them in case they scrap the sides? Even if you had a 1/24 trailer you might have to widen it anyway.
