Not Honda related, but worth a try...
Hey all.
A friend of mine owns an '88 Chrysler LeBaron Turbo, and he's had to replace the pickup coil (inside the distributor) several times. It went out again yesterday, and he's tired of replacing it... Have any of you had this problem at all, and if so, what's the fix? The problem with the pickup coil is obviously not the real problem, it's only a symptom of something else... Would he be better off replacing the entire distributor? Would an external ignition system (such as an MSD electronic ignition) help at all?

Tell him to ditch the car and take his turbo..
![]() Sorry..that wasn't much help was it. I had an 85 Mazda that had similar problems..it turned out to be the ignitor burning up the coil..A distributor from a junkyard for about $125 fixed the coil problem.

Replace the entire distributor assembly...Everyone seems to be having distributr problems including myself. The bearings on my 1st b16a dizzy went but they are known to do that.

Is the distributor modified in any way?
Is the coil arching? Does the distrib. have some sort of igniter like Honda, if so try replacing that with a new coil, cap, rotor. No need to replace the entire assembly if not needed. |
