What's up, what's new for 2007?

Aussie, have you done one of them valve adjustments for your bike(s)?

Btw, hey, nice to be back after 2 months of hiatus. I went to Canada for winter, got sick (still am a bit) and now on medications. Happy 2007!

Some curiousity, when is it good time to replace the clutch? Just wait until it's dead? Do I have to replace the the whole thing or just the dysfunctional gears, springs, or plates? Thanks.

valve adjustments....... hmmmm

funny thing. i thought my bikes was sounding quite noisy and thought it might have needed the valves adjusted so off to the mechanic i go.

apparently i have an auto system that has a ratchet style adjustment tensioner that gets noisy just before it kicks in a notch. sounds like noisy valves but isn't and they said no need to adjust the valves.

never needed to replace a clutch in a bike. i sell it before it happens and let someone else deal with my abuse

Welcome back Z. Your profile shows you live in Florida, what possesed you to go to CAnada in the winter? They have good beer in Florida too you know! As far as valve adjustments and clutch replacements, what do you ride again?

Depends on the bike. Most you (by you I mean I) just wait until they wow and slip a bit when you bust the throttle open to pass in a higher gear...then have a look.

The Intruders I'm partial to are hard to wear out a clutch, but the springs suck, once they are fully cooked, they loose a little preload, and the clutch starts slipping, usually about 8000-10000 miles...but when you look, the discs are fine.

The fix most of us have been doing involves putting a thin washer under each spring as a shim, then they bite like hell, better than new...and they don't degrade any further...has a hydro clutch, so you don't really notice any increase in pull effort, even though there is a bit...

Thanks, relatives reunion in Toronto. The usual, some fuss, quite a bit fun. Their whole public transportation seemed quick and flawless, most of the congestion of NY around downtown areas, but none of the filth.

Anyway, I ride 1999 Honda CBR600 F4. I haven't noticed any oddity yet, but the the manual said to do some valve checks at 14k and adjustment if necessary, which is what the odo reads now. But no signs, not even slip ups or rough idlings.

But there is a increase in fuel consumption, which could be other factors and not necessarily this.
