RADIOs FAILED Need Replacement

I have 2 1994 buicks and they both died inside 3 months.
Both have internal problems inside the radios. .

I was hoping someone has replaced theirs and had success.

I just need a simple replacement that wont cause problems and works with the antenna system and lighting..

THanks.
BASS

Mine look like this.

Re: RADIOs FAILED Need Replacement

Have you tried looking online? or looking into junkyards? I know that the 95' to 97' stereos are interchangeable... Even with the CD player and Tape player combo... they'll slap right into the stock position no problem.

If you go to a scrap yard, take the car you're going to put the radio in and bring a tape and a CD... then, tell the guy you want to take it out to your car to see if it'll work... they should be fine with it as long as you don't act shifty...

Slap it in real quick, see if it works, fool around with it, make sure the antena goes up, the CD/Tape decks kick in and work properly. Also make sure all your lights and internal switches work properly before buying it.

If it's a good radio, offer them 25 bucks... they should go for it if they're a small yard... (or simply tell them one of the knobs doesnt work right, or remove a knob or something.)

I do not advocate stealing... just saying, pinch pennies where you can when dealing with used parts.

Good luck.

..
I did look up ebay did find one but not sure I will get the bid..

The radio does some wierd stuff to assist the Park dash lighting controls.

Thanks.

Re: RADIOs FAILED Need Replacement

I think it's in the way they wired it. The radio works with the car's dimmer system, however I think it acts as a buffer between the switch and the lights...

Kinda like how one lightbulb goes out in a string of Christmas lights, they all go out. Same thing. If the dimmer/light is messed up in the radio itself it'll effect everything hooked up to the dimmer system.

I wonder if there's a way to by-pass this. Possibly just loop the dimmer wires coming out of the harness.

Worth a tinker.

Re: RADIOs FAILED Need Replacement

I just swapped my cassette unit in my '94 for a CD player.
It is in perfect working condition.
I would be happy to sell it to you quite cheap.

Re: RADIOs FAILED Need Replacement

If I were you I'd just buy a CD/MP3 player. Might as well if you have to replace the stock one you had. They're not that expensive on ebay. Its what I did when my PAs stock CD player stopped working. The radio worked but it wouldn't play CDs

Your basically right but some of the 94' park has ACC (auto climate control) and the dimmer signals (VF) for the climate control panel originate and come out of the orignal radio for the car.
It is all depending on the particular specific radio/Air conditioning installation has been installed for that car that year.. Some radios that look identical will not work.

This means that I put in a aftermarket or a identical panel looking stock radio I will or may loose lighting for my air conditioning panel and passenger indicators. No external temp display, no ambient temp. NO display etc on my Air conditioning panel..

I understand I can replace both Radio and the ACC for a newer system that doesnt wire up this way if I could get them both.

Thanks for participating
