for anyone who has removed the A/C/alt serp belt
I know I'm not totally screwed, but I just had to replace my alternator. To do that, I had to remove the serp. When adjusting the belt tensioner, I snapped the 12mm bolt that you loosen in order to slide the tensioner up and down.
![]() Where it says, "turn the bolt counterclockwise to lower pulley", that's the old, rusted bolt that snapped off. It's just a tiny peice, hopefully someone has taken that pulley off before and knows what I'm talking about. Where the hell can I get this peice? I can't drive my car without it!!! |

Re: for anyone who has removed the A/C/alt serp belt
well you have 2 options. 1) replace that bolt/tensioner. 2) get a smaller belt.
do you use ur A/C? if not, you can get a smaller belt that will bypass the a/c pulley and that tensioner pulley. it wraps around the alternator, upper idler, and crank pulley. easy to install, i can give you more info and belt part number and such if you need it. i recently put this aforementioned smaller belt on a guy's 3S. his A/C pulley was vibrating annoyingly loud, and since he didn't use the A/C, we just bypassed it. SO, i have this guy's tensioner pulley (since he has no need for it), the one in question that you broke. if you can just pay shipping, i can mail it and all the associated parts to you (pulley, bracket, bolt that you snapped, and other bolts). it works great, i even took it apart and cleaned it. however, if you want me to polish it, that will be extra. polishing is worth about 10hp, by teh way.

Re: for anyone who has removed the A/C/alt serp belt
How much would you charge for shipping to 14870? How much extra would you charge for polishing? If you have some pics post them... I just wanna be absolutely sure we're talking about the same part. If you're sure it's the right one, forget the pics, lol. Lastly, I would need this part ASAP, so how quickly can it get to me we did this today? BTW thanks for the post. I honestly didn't think anyone would have it at all.

Re: for anyone who has removed the A/C/alt serp belt
i was joking about the polishing. it does not add horsepower. just like a NOS sticker doesn't add horsepower.
so i guess you DO use the A/C? i guess that rules out option #2. i'm not charging anything, its what the carrier charges. i like to use UPS b/c their tracking info is updated in REAL time, unlike USPS which will only update tracking info after the package is delivered (ummm...worthless?). i wouldn't think everything would be more than 3-4 lbs. so if you want it ASAP, then you can always have it overnighted, or 2nd day air. i'll check the UPS site for rates. ------------------ don't know why i didn't think of this before: why not just go to your local hardware store and get another bolt? saves you money on shipping.

Re: for anyone who has removed the A/C/alt serp belt
I have a quick fix (even though i still want the pulley and tensioner.) I just tightened up the belt and tightened the 14mm bolt in the center of the pulley. That holds it in place. I still wan't the stuff though cause I need it. But it's not as urgent as I thought. Ground shipping would be alright with me.
BTW I know polishing the pulley doesnt add horsepower lol. I thought maybe you polished it anyway for some odd reason. |

Re: for anyone who has removed the A/C/alt serp belt
i can understand you wanting another bolt, but why another pulley? what's wrong with your pulley?
so the way i see it, all you need is a bolt. the cost you would pay for shipping a stupid bolt is much more than its worth in time and money. and more than likely you could either find the same bolt at a hardware store, OR even pull it off a 3S from a local junkyard.

Re: for anyone who has removed the A/C/alt serp belt
Oh no sorry, I just thought you were getting rid of everything as a set. I do not need the pulley or anything else besides the tension mechanism (the 12mm bolt you loosen so the pulley lowers). I could get a new bolt but it's out of the question because what happened is the bolt head snapped off, leaving the threads still inside the peice. I tried holding the part in place with vice grips and using pliers to take the remaininder of the bolt out, but the two peices are so rusted it's basically one whole unit... that's why the bolt broke off in the first place.
So I don't just need the bolt, I need the bolt plus the tension mechanism it screws into (the pulley bolt also screws into the tension mechanism.) |
