thinking about buying a taurus

hi,
thinking about buying a taurus from 00 to 06 year range (gen 4). as far as maintenance problems go, did they get better as you get closer to 06 or worse? I heard they have coil spring problems. what years did that happen? any other issues to look out for? thanks

I have a 2002 Taurus SES with Vulcan engine. I bought it with 18k miles in 2002 and it has 52k miles now. It has been a very reliable car. I had the blower motor replaced under warranty and have had no other issues with it.

I have an `04 SEL with a Duratec that I bought used last June. It had 28,000 miles on it then and it has 50,000 on it now. I've had NO issues with it at all. It rides great, it has plenty of get-up-n-go and it gets 26+mpg highway.

My brother has a Sable. He has had no trouble with it eignie wise. And I know that Ford worked all the kinks outta the tranny, so you have nothing to worry about.

I've put close to 100k miles on my '97 Taurus. I've had a ton of problems with it, from having to replace all sorts of electrical issues to having to completely tear out the radiator and put in a new one. I've never personally met a Taurus owner that didn't think they were one of the shittiest American cars ever built. But I do see a lot of people on here who like them, so I guess there are two sides to the story. That's just my personal experience.

About a year ago I bought an 03 SES with the Vulcan engine 38K miles on it and now has 48K on it. I'm a senior citizen and it's one of the best cars I ever had. A lot of big companies use them for "fleet" vehicles and if they weren't good they wouldn't use them. They depreciate fast so get one a year or two old that has already taken the big depreciation lick. IF you can find a new one you can probably get zero APR or a low finance rate where a used one will cost a lot more in finance charges. Take care of it and it should run 200,000 miles easy.
