Rear Speakers Not Working in 2001 Grand Prix GT

Hi,
I recently bought a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Sedan. I love it; however, the rear speakers have not worked since I have had the car. I am not sure if the previous owner had a a system in the trunk or they had blown out the speakers. I looked at the rear speakers and the original wiring is still connected to the speakers. The car is optioned out in everyway, so I am guessing that this model may have come with a premium sound system. Are there seperate amps for the rear speakers somewhere in the car at all? I really dont know what I need to do to get them working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Depends is the car radio stock or after market. One way to test if its the speaker its the speaker its self is to find a speaker for example from a radio in your house and connect the wires from the speaker to the wires connecting to the car speaker, if you get signal then it`s probley in the wiring somewhere, I belive theres an amp in the roof of the trunk.

Re: Rear Speakers Not Working in 2001 Grand Prix GT

The premium sound has a separate tweeter and 6x9 in the rear deck and an amp mounted in the rear shelf under the carpet. If you PM me with the last 8-digits of your vin, I can tell you if you have the premium sound if you're still not sure. The rear speakers in my 99 GT (no premium sound) did the same thing and it was the speakers themselves that were bad. As the previous poster suggested, plug in a known good speaker, if it works, then you need new speakers.
