Stereo problems

Well, Im slowly but surely workin out all the kinks with my 91 firebird, I'm still having some trouble recieving power while hooking up a cd player. A friend and I both tried to get power to the stereo, nothing came on. I think the original wiring harness was taken out because theres just a bunch of wires sticking out of the console with no wire harness plug on them. I'm not sure if my car is messed up or if it's just the cd player thats messed up. my friend tried to test the unit for power by connecting it right to his battery and nothing lit up. Any suggestions would be nice. I guess I'm too cheap to have it professionally installed

Re: Stereo problems

You can always run the power wire from the fuse box. There is an 'outlet' there for hot and ignition. Look at your fuse box diagram.

Did he hook up the "ignition" wire to the battery as well?

I've been there before, my radio wiring was completely gutted. I had to run new wires for everything. It's a pain in the neck, but if you have a manual it helps a lot.

Re: Stereo problems

Grab you a multimeter, black should always be ground...even if the plug was taken out, you should be able to find your power wire by using the meter.

Re: Stereo problems

Take some pictures of the wires and post them up, if it's what I think it is, I might have the diagram printout buried in a box in my closet with all the rest of the junk I somehow ended up with.
