60k Tune Up

I am looking to get my 94 SL tuned up, its got about 125k on it, and I am wondering where I should bring it. I live in Norfolk, Virginia and am looking for a very reliable place that I can trust. I dont want people trying to tell me bs that I need to replace when I dont ya kno? So if anyone lives around here, or if anyone knows of a good chain to take it to, I would appreciate the help. Oh yeah, and about how much does this cost? Thanks guys.

Re: 60k Tune Up

I do not know of anyone near that specializes in 3/s but you can go into the mechanics with a knowledge of what needs to be done. Check out these links to learn about and even purchase the parts for your car. In total you should spend around $350 for parts give or take.

Re: 60k Tune Up

Will parts go bad if they're just sitting around for a long period of time? Because I have the timing belt kit from Rockville but since I probably won't be installing it any time soon, I'm thinking that parts like the timing belt might start to crack after awhile!?! ;o/

Re: 60k Tune Up

parts won't go bad if they're just sitting. however, if you're being a dilbert and leaving the parts exposed to the sun and other elements, ya, they'll go bad. but if they are just in the package, sitting on the shelf, no harm done.

Re: 60k Tune Up

I agree with linebckr, it should be fine if it is sealed up in a package. I could however see someone's seals or gaskets going bad if they sat around for a very long time but I think you are going to be fine with those parts.

First off, those 4 words have no business being in the same paragraph. Chains pay their workers $7 an hour for a reason.

Ask here Either they can tell you what is closest to you, or a member can do it for you for less $$$.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

good point. i forgot to mention that.

i do a lot of work on 3S cars in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area. to give you an idea of price range for a 60K job, i charge $250 labor for the whole thing (timing belt, water pump, pulleys, and anything else down there you want to change). if you are changing the oil pump (recommended for 120k service), that would be a little extra labor. i recommend getting OEM parts from Mitsubishi. Rockville Mitsu out of Maryland gives discount to 3Si members. www.thepartsbin.com has free shipping on orders over $50, and they have good parts too, just make sure you have the right part numbers. parts alone will easily run you around $300.

for the 120k job, some independent shops would charge about $300-$400 labor. the dealership would charge anywhere from $400 and up just for labor.

your best bet is to follow the 3si link Igovert provided and find someone in your area that is a 3S self-dubbed mechanic. they can provide you with probably the best service, since they have more than likely done the job many times on their own cars and other ppls cars.

Hey if you still need this done I am kind of far away, but if you want alot done I could make it worth your while. I am in Hagerstown, MD. I used to be the lead tech at altered atmosphere motorsports in Gaithersburg, MD. I work out of my place now. I have alot of guys that come up here from VA to get work done. There are six VR4's here right at the moment.

just mapquest your address to Williamsport, MD 21795
It will probably take me most of the day, the dealer book calls it an 8 hr job I think, I do not charge by the hour for it so I take my time to recheck and inspect everything.
