Grand Am anti-freeze drain leak

My daughter has a 96 2.4L. The other day anti-freeze started to leak from what looks like a drain valve from the firewall just left of centre looking from front of car. When I put in more anti-freeze it poured right through. Also, when running car fills with a heavy sweet smelling mist. Am wondering what this drain is for and the problem. Thanks

Re: Grand Am anti-freeze drain leak

The heater core is leaking and will have to be replaced. It sounds like it may have split open if it is pouring out that fast. You may want to have this replaced by a mechanic as they can be quite a pain to get to. If you plan to do the work yourself get a good manual as there are a couple of hidden bolts that you will have to remove.
