To many miles?

Ok, i'm looking at getting a 1992 Dodge Stealth RT/TT AWD, is ~140,000 miles to much for this car? Or will I be looking at doing a lot of maintenence (sp?) to the car to keep it running. I don't want any surprises with this car when it comes time to drive it. I'd just like to know if thats to many miles for the car, and if I should just look elsewhere.

Re: To many miles?

Regardless of miles these cars rquire a LOT of maintenance. With a TT that has 140,000 miles you should definately have a few thousand se aside for maintenance and repairs. It also depends how it was driven by it's last owner. Whenever I buy a used car I always expect to make a few repairs after buying it and then put that into my budget.

Re: To many miles?

Would the car still be reliable enough to be a DD?

once again, depends how the car has been driven in the past and what kind of condition it is. One of my best friends has a 93 RT/TT with over 180K, its his daily driver, and its as reliable as any other car. He's getting ready to to do his 3rd 60K tuneup since he's had it.

Re: To many miles?

I was told that he has all the records of the work thats been done to it. so i'm going to ask to see those, and take it to my mechanic as well before I buy it.

Re: To many miles?

Also have him look at the transfer case and see if it is leaking. That is a common problem for stock t-cases and if it is you should be able to knock the price down a bit.

a leaking transfer case is covered by a mitsubishi recall. If it is leaking, take it to the dealership, they have to fix it for free.

Re: To many miles?

^^ First talk him down because it is leaking (if in fact it is) and then get it fixed for free.

Re: To many miles?

when you look at the records, check to see if/when the turbos were serviced and when the last 60k tune wad done. 60k in case your not familiar, is timing belt, water pump, oil pump should have been done around 120k, and some other misk belts and tensioners. More info about it in the FAQs.

also, the syncros can be issues on these cars. Make sure it shifts smoothly.

like i said man, theres a whole section in the faq about what commonly goes wrong with these cars. check it out.

Re: To many miles?

i think your best bet is to check out the faq like they said
syncro's, turbo's, suspension, ya might have tons of oil leaking into your combustion chamber...like mentioned there's many things that can go wrong if not properly taken care of

just check out the faq
