00 silverado Radio Issue

The leds/lights that illumate the buttons are out on 1/2 of the radio. Is there a fix for this besides replacing the entire radio. 00 Silverado

I found this:

I went to a dealer first, to look for bulbs. At that time I was informed of a program they had running in which you bring in your defective radio (bad bulbs) and in about a week you would have another fully functional unit. I think the service was about $75.00. The replacement unit was supposed have been fully serviced, cleaned etc., and in 100% operating condition. You may want to check on this.

I would not suggest trying to replace the bulbs unless you have some background in electronic desoldering/soldering. You could easily damage the pc board.
I guess you need to remove the radio and take the faceplate off and if it has bulbs then just replace them...led's and you would have to do a little de-soldering/soldering. Do you know how to solder on a PC board?

Re: 00 silverado Radio Issue

I have the same issue with my 2001 Silverado. Can anyone tell me where I might find instructions on how to remove the radio from the dash?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: 00 silverado Radio Issue

Part your truck on flat ground and put the parking brake on...tilt the steering wheel down...put the key in the ign and turn to on but do not start, you are only doing this so you can move the gear selector to 1. Remove the bezel around the instrument panel by gently pulling around the edges...it's just held in with fittings that will release if you pull on it. You will probably have to tilt the bezel out and down to remove. Once it's clear the radio is held in with two clips, one on each side. Remove the wiring and antenna and you are done.
Don't forget to turn your ign off.
